Annie Marie Bynum entered her rest with the Lord at home on July 5, 2024, with her family by her side. Annie was born on October 3, 1926, in Como, North Carolina to the late Enoch Sr. and Fannie D. Cowper. Annie attended high school in Winton, North Carolina and graduated from C.S. Brown High School.

In 1949 Annie married Webster H. Bynum Jr. Wanting a better life for their family they moved to Long Branch, NJ in 1959. Annie worked at Artlin Mills in Long Branch and later in order to spend more time with her children she became a domestic worker. She was a hard worker and did everything she could to help care for her family.

Soon after moving to Long Branch Annie and Webster united with Second Baptist Church where the late Reverend C. P. Williams was pastor. There her husband was ordained as a Deacon and she became a Deaconess. Annie attended Sunday School. She regularly joined her husband in visiting nursing homes, hospitals and the sick and shut in to serve communion. She enjoyed working in the kitchen serving the children during Vacation Bible School.

Whenever her children had friends over, she would insist they have something to eat, in those days’ food was always ready. Annie was always willing to share what she had with others.

Annie babysat several children including her grandchildren. She taught them about the Lord and instilled values in them from an early age.

Annie is predeceased by her parents Enoch Sr. and Fannie D. Cowper, her husband Webster H. Bynum Jr., three brothers Enoch Jr., John C., and Paul E. Cooper, all of North Carolina.

She leaves to cherish her memories three daughters Peggy Patricia Stephenson of Jackson, MS, Bettie Smith of Neptune, NJ, and Thomasine Shuler of Aberdeen, MD; one son Paul E. Bynum (Carolyn) of Sierra Vista, AZ; eleven grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; eleven great-great grandchildren; one sister Etta Mae Parker, of NC; one sister-in-law Mildred Cooper, of NC; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

To the family , Our deepest condolences and Love. It is said, Those we love can never be more than a thought away; for as long as there’s a memory, they live on in our hearts. Aunt Marie leaves us with plenty of memories in our lifetime. Sending my prayers of strength for today and tomorrow.
