Gladys Louise Ricks peacefully departed this life on Wednesday afternoon, July 18 2018 at Jersey Shore Medical Center, in Neptune, NJ.  She was born in Sussex County, Virginia on September 11, 1942.  She was the 2nd child of four to the late Kenny and Florence Whitney.

Gladys was preceded in death by parents Kenny and Florence Whitney, her sister Mary Ricks and her youngest son James Ricks.

Gladys was reared and educated in Sussex County Virginia before moving to Asbury Park, NJ.  While living in New Jersey, she raised her family by attending church, going to the beach and entertaining her close circle of friends.

Gladys retired from Hawkswood School in Eatontown, NJ after 34 years of service as a supervisor of housekeeping.  She was loved by her colleagues and will be dearly missed.  She could brighten your day with her witty remarks.  She always expressed her love with her acts of kindness by giving her sage advice, time and her genuine smile and laughter.

Gladys was a faithful and devoted member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Neptune, NJ for many years.  Everyone knew that God and family were the most important things in her life and she never lost sight of what really mattered.

She is survived by her sister Gracie Gray of Wavely, Virginia and brother Frank Whitney of Boston, Massachusetts.  She leaves to cherish her loving memory three daughters Angela Whitney Whitfield of Woodbridge, Virginia, Regina Buffaloe (husband Grady) of Long Branch, New Jersey, Tina Heckstall and family of Boston, Massachusetts and son Eugene Ricks Jr. and family of Newport News, Virginia; three granddaughters LaVaughn Ricks, Zhane Buffaloe and Avonna Whitfield; four great-grandsons Karvon Ricks, Ka'lei, Kyhmer and Kha'mel Howard.  Further Gladys shared a very special relationship with her best friend Mr. James Pope, supporting each other throughout their many years of friendship.  She also leaves to cherish her memory a host of nephews, nieces and friends.
