Gloria Madeline Emmons, 92, of Keyport, NJ, passed away peacefully in Holmdel, NJ on July 29, 2016. "Mattie," as she was lovingly known, was a lifelong NJ resident. Her early years were spent on Bank Street, Red Bank, NJ with her beloved cousin, Elizabeth "Bet" Rhodes where they spent many days searching the local dump for stale Easter ribbon candy. What a treat!
Keyport, NJ was her next residence where she attended Keyport schools. She married Hampton J. Emmons on April 27, 1947. They resided in Morganville, NJ during their marriage. Though Mat and Hampy didn't have any biological children, they were blessed with a daughter, Sonia Lynn. Mat and Hampy had a love for travel. Each year, with Mat's mother, Hester Mann Rowser, Lynn and various relatives they explored the United States.
In her life she worked at various hospitals, Kalma's Floral Shop, Hendrickson's Old Wagon Farm and lastly at The Chowder Pot restaurants.
Mat was known for her baking skills, love of bowling and an avid games player. Later in life at the Bethany Towers she could be found Friday nights playing bingo with her friends. Aunt Mat was a faithful life member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church, Keyport, NJ and a member of the Keyport Civic League.
She was preceded in death by her mother and husband. She leaves to celebrate her life her daughter Sonia L. Brumskill, Grand Forks, ND; granddaughter Cameo E. Roberts (Halvert), San Antonio, TX; grandson Collin E. Brumskill, Grand Forks, ND; great granddaughter Abigail L. Touchtone, Grand Forks, ND; great grandsons Osric Emmons Roberts and Odin Griffith Roberts, San Antonio, TX; Special nieces, Suszanne Brown, Westfield, NJ; Denise Love (Dewayne), Willingboro, NJ; Diana Collins, Hazlet, NJ; Joanne Royster, Keyport, NJ; Robin Bass (Danny), Westfield, NJ; Tracy Royster (Allen), Middletown, NJ; Nikisia Scott-Sewell (Rob), Willingboro, NJ; nephews Kevin Collins (Lisa), Wilmington, DE; Thomas "Butch" McKenzie, Morganville, NJ and Godson, Nicholas McKenzie (Qualette), Lakewood, NJ and a host of other family and friends.
