Aunt Janie Picture (1)resize 2Janie Laura Hill Cleamons, 93, a life-long resident of Lakewood, NJ for many years, was called home on April 22, 2016 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in Rahway.  She was the first born to the late Walter Hill and Leaner Prather.  Janie attended school in the Lakewood school system but stopped to take care of her family.  She was enrolled and graduated from the Princeton Ave. Bible College in Lakewood, NJ.  She also was a member of the ladies quilting guild.  Janie worked at the Lakewood Mandal Hotel where she met the late James Cornelius Gamble who was a US Army Veteran.  They married in 1939.  Janie left employment at the hotel then began working at Bertha Pasafoom Dry Cleaners & Sewing factory where she worked for many years.  After the passing of James she met the late Iverson Cleamons, who also was a US Army Veteran.  They wed in 1965.  Janie worked for Excel Wood where she was shop steward & union representative.  She retired from Excel Wood in 1988.  

While living in Lakewood Janie was a member of Greater Bethel Church of God where she served on the mothers board, missionary board and was the church secretary under the late Superintendent Louis Rogers.  She was a faithful member for 35 years until 1999 when she moved to Savannah, GA.  In Georgia she went under watch care at the Bread of Life Church of God under Bishop Benjamin Collins.  She served on the missionary and mothers boards.  Janie joined the Senior Citizens Association Geechee Quilters Guild while in Georgia.  Her passion in life was sewing, quilting and crocheting.  Janie lived in Savannah, GA for 13 years until moving back to New Jersey in 2013 to be close to her family.  She then joined Smith Memorial Church of God under the leadership of Dr. C.H. Evans until she became ill.

Janie was preceded in death by her children Joseph Gamble, Thomas Gamble, Walter Gamble, Louis Gamble, Ethel Dames, Linda Gamble; sisters Gloria Hill, Blanche Hill, Hope Scott and Rachael Jordan.

She leaves to mourn and cherish her memories a daughter Sheila Barbara Gamble of Savannah, GA; a sister Hilda Vaughn of Lakewood, NJ; special grand-children and great grand-children Lisa L. Dames, April Gamble, Maurice Bodie all of Rahway, Joseph Gamble of Savannah, GA; 23 grand-children, 27 great grand-children, 5 great great grand-children and a host of nieces, cousins and friends.
