Marion Victoria (Carter) Key passed away peacefully on November 16, 2024, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy of love. She was a devoted friend, a caring family member, and an inspiration to all who knew her. Her warm spirit and kind heart touched the lives of many. Marion will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by her loved ones and friends.
Marion Victoria (Carter) Key, known to all as "Vicki," was born on May 7, 1945, in Keyport, New Jersey. She was the daughter of the late Rev. James Warren Carter Sr. and Marion Ellen (Stevens).
Vicki loved to sing and had an amazing voice. She also enjoyed dancing the hustle and was quick to join the dance floor. Long before there was Martha Stewart, there was Vicki, who had a remarkable gift for cooking, hosting, and entertaining. She had a knack for decorating for holidays and special occasions, always going above and beyond to ensure everyone felt loved.
Being around Vicki was always a pleasure. She had a fantastic sense of humor that could make us laugh uncontrollably, even at times when we didn’t know what we were laughing at. Her infectious laughter had a way of drawing everyone in to join in on the fun.
During her time at Keyport High School, you could find her cheering on the boys' teams with pom-poms in one hand and Jergen's lotion in the other.
Vicki was employed by Prudential, McGraw-Hill, and Bristol-Myers Squibb for many years and was always an exemplary professional. She met and made lifetime friendships with many co-workers.
Her personality and sense of humor were well-known to those privileged to know her. She was truly the life of the party. Vicki’s spirit was one of innate generosity, and she epitomized the lyrics of the song: “If I could help somebody along the way, then my living will not be in vain.” She was always kind and helpful to everyone in her sphere.
Vicki grew up very involved in church. She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church for many years prior to her onset of illness.
Vicki endured a chronic respiratory ailment and was incapacitated for many years, but through it all, she maintained her trust in the Lord. She was predeceased by her father; Rev. James W. Carter Sr., Mother; Marion E (Stevens) Carter, Brothers; William J. Carter, Charles A. Carter, Rev. James W. Carter Jr., and son; Cade A Key.
Vicki leaves to mourn her daughter, Lisa Scott (Reggie) of New Jersey; her sister, Arline Stewart of Maryland; her grandson, Richard Ivery (Anissa) of New Jersey; her granddaughters; Sheryce Ivery, Ashante Ivery of New Jersey, and Dominique Key of Florida; her great-grandsons, Grayson Dinnis, Giovanni Dinnis, Sebastien Ivery, and Carter Ivery-Hurff; her great-granddaughters, Delayna Ivery-Potts, Silene Ivery, and Kadence Key-Williams; Beloved friend, Minister Peggy Burton; along with a host of nieces, nephews, family members, and close friends.
We all say in unison that we love you, Vicki, and you will always be in our hearts. In the name of Jesus Christ, we remember you.
Ms Vicki was a God send to whomever came into contact with her. She was full of love , joy , and laughter. I know when her and my mother Gwinnetta got together was only a matter of time before we all would be laughing non stop. Ms Vicki was a shining light and a blessing to all that crossed her path. Lisa and family I’m sorry for your lost. Your mother was truly loved by us and so many. I will keep you all in my prayers , Love George Wade
