A Time to be Born

Pauline M. Booker, the oldest daughter of the late Ralph T. and Leola Lewis, was born November 21,1928 in Red Bank, NJ.

A Time to Live

Pauline, affectionately called “Sister” by her loving siblings, received her education and graduated from the Red Bank public school system. She had great passion for sports and would often share her experiences of playing various sports in school and baseball with her brothers.  She also enjoyed dancing and prided herself for staying on the dance floor.

Being the oldest girl, she assisted her father with delivering some of her siblings. She was very fond of family and loved them all.  Her “Bestie” was her brother, Hobert (Hofie). This was her ride or die. She often spoke about the many memorable experiences they managed to get themselves into.

She worked various jobs, mostly in the health field. As a nurse’s aide, she cared for patients at Marlboro Psychiatric Facility, Marlboro, NJ, Brownstone Manor, Long Branch, NJ, House of the Pines, Catonsville, MD and Church Home Hospital, Baltimore, MD. She also enjoyed working at various racetracks Monmouth Park, Oceanport, NJ, Black Horse Park, Pleasantville, NJ and Bowie Racetrack, Bowie, MD.

She had a passion for caring for others, especially the elders. She often assisted the elderly at church and made sure they were able to get on the church bus.

She loved attending family gatherings, spending time with friends, and most of all her children. For example, playing scrabble with Buggy, spending quality time with Harold during his visits, looking forward to Pauline sneaking in candy, and snacks, and excitedly awaiting Charlene’s visit so that she could request her favorite homecooked meals. She also enjoyed watching tennis, basketball, football, doing word puzzle books and going to Atlantic City.

 A Time to Love

She married the late Junior Booker, Sr. They became the proud parents of four children: Dolores, Junior, Jr, Harold, and Pauline.

Later in life, she met and fell in love with Charles Thompson, Sr. and from this union one child was born, Charlene.

A Time to Serve

As a child, she received her Christian foundation from her beloved family and as a member of Shrewsbury A.M.E. Zion Church. She continued her spiritual growth after moving to Baltimore, MD at Friendship Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. William McCoy, Jr. She enjoyed singing on the Gospel and #2 Choirs. She was very active in building her relationship with Jesus.

Upon her return to New Jersey, she renewed her membership with Shrewsbury A.M.E. where she remained a faithful member until her passing.

A Time to Transition

She answered the “Master’s call and transitioned to an eternal peaceful sleep on Sunday, July 28, 2024.
