Prince Alfred Sims was born on May 30, 1943, in St. Petersburg, Florida, and was the oldest of two children born to the late Prince and Purnace Kelly Sims.

Prince graduated from Gibbs High School in St. Petersburg, Florida, and went on to attend Florida A&M University.

He was brought up in the church and was the youngest member of Travelers’ Rest Missionary Baptist Church, when it was established on April 4, 1944. Prince was baptized at an early age and served as an usher. He was an active member of Travelers’ Rest until he moved to New Jersey in 1970.

Prince later joined Faith Tabernacle Baptist Church in Asbury Park, New Jersey, where he was ordained as a deacon. His faith and love for the Lord were no secret. He was able to incorporate his love for history, to boldly defend his belief and knowledge of God’s Word. Prince was passionate about visiting the sick, encouraging others, and unashamedly sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ.

He was an avid golfer, and he enjoyed playing cards, billiards, and board games. He enjoyed watching a variety of sports, especially college football. He would often say, “I enjoy watching these college guys, because they play with so much heart.” Prince also loved music, Big Band being his favorite, and dancing.

Prince worked in various occupations during his lifetime. In the latter years, he was employed by Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, New Jersey. He eventually retired as a supervisor of Environmental Services from Jersey Shore Medical Center in 2007.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Miriam Payne; and daughter, Kara Stevens.

Prince A. Sims departed his earthly life on September 18, 2024. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Carla (Henry III) Vaughn of St. Petersburg, Florida; Karen Smith of Gibsonton, Florida; and Jared Sims of Neptune, New Jersey; six grandchildren: Kredelle Vaughn of Clearwater, Florida; Henry Vaughn IV of St. Petersburg, Florida; Marcus Vaughn of Clearwater, Florida; Ayisha Smith of Dallas, Texas; Isaiah Smith of Gibsonton, Florida; and Genoveve Stevens of New Jersey; brother-in-law, Carlton (Mary) Payne, of Blythewood, South Carolina; like a brother, Johnny Archer of Palm Coast, Florida; and extended family and friends.

Prince also leaves to mourn his loving companion and partner of over 17 years, Gail R. Davis; like sons: Bobby Stafford and Shamaar Davis; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who lovingly referred to him as Pop Pop. He will always be remembered for his devotion and knowledge he shared with his family and friends.
