OBITUARY
SERVICE DETAILS
Thelma Leona Hurley was born on Sunday, November 3, 1957, in Morehead City, NC to Milton Leroy Jenkins and Estella (Frazier) Jenkins. She departed this life on Sunday, June 30, 2024, at her home in Middletown, NJ.
Thelma started her early education in the state of Florida and continued her education in the Middletown Township educational system, graduating for Middletown High School in 1976. She went on to graduate from Brookdale Community College, with an Associate degree in Business.
Thelma worked for many area companies such as Garden State Manor, Steinbach, Prudential Insurance, and L. J. Gonzer. However, of all the places she worked, she loved working for the Lord in her church, St. Paul Baptist Church in Atlantic Highlands, NJ! She was baptized there by the late Rev. H. P. Davis, Jr. and was a very active member! To know Thelma is to know that she was a singer and you could often pull up to her home and hear her doing just that! Thelma served in the Gospel Chorus and Mass choir, as a Sunday School teacher and in the Nurses ministry, and several other capacities in support of the ministry at St Paul. Thelma married David Gordon Hurley in October of 1989 (nearly 35 years) and they have one son, David Milton Hurley.
Thelma is preceded in death by her father Milton Jenkins.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, David G. Hurley; son, David M. Hurley; Mother Estella Jenkins; Sisters, Darlene Jenkins, Melonese Jenkins, Barbara (Gerald “Jerry”) Schenck, and Mamie Boglin; as well as nephews, nieces, cousins, church family, and dear friends.
Thelma was such a kind and bubbly person who I got to know when she came to the senior center.
I had the pleasure of working with this lovely sweet woman. She shared stories of her son David who she loved dearly and so proud of her sister who served our country. We had many laughs together and she tried to keep in touch. The crazy thing is I spoke of her few days ago. I know God now has one of his Best angels even know I am very sadden by her passing. My condolences to her entire family especially her son. You could not love Thelma!!
Love You Girl,
Kathy Cardona
