Virginia E. Edmond was born in Farmville, Va. to Herman Monroe and Maggie Stokes on May 20, 1940. She passed away at her home in Long Branch, NJ.
Virginia attended Red Bank (NJ) High School and spent most of her adult life as a resident of Long Branch, NJ. With a life-long and abiding love for the care and education of young children, she became an early-education professional in the Kiddie Kare Child Development Program Center at Second Baptist Church of Asbury Park, NJ. Virginia was married to the late Alfred Adam Edmond Sr. from 1959 through 1970 and from that union five children were born. Virginia was a faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist Church for many years.
Virginia was predeceased by her parents Herman Monroe and Maggie Stokes, her brother Richard Monroe, her sister Martha Oliver and her son Norman Eugene Edmond.
Surviving to cherish her in memory are her sisters Louise Pierce and Elizabeth Pierce; brothers John Monroe and Harry Monroe Sr.; her loving children Alfred A. Edmond Jr. (Zara); Michael B. Edmond, Nancy M. Edmond and Wanda D. Edmond; grandchildren Faith Tyrell (Benny, deceased), Angela Edmond, Thomasina Goff (Sidney), Tiffany Turner (Sherman), Mo Brown, Edmond Lazarre (Ronald), Christine Lorraine Edmond, David Adam Robeson Edmond and Allyson Elaine Watkins; 11 great grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.
The family of the late Virginia Edmond would like to thank each of you for your support during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to UNCF: United Negro College Fund or the Thurgood Marshall College Fund.
