George Michael Fears Sr. was born on May 14, 1961, in South Brunswick, New Jersey, to the late George M. Fears and the late Bernice Fears. He peacefully departed this life, leaving behind a legacy of excellence, service, determination, and love that will forever be remembered by those who knew him.
In 1979, George met Ronda Fears, and from their union they were blessed with two children, George Jr. and Christina Fears, who became the pride and joy of his life.
George spent his early years in South Brunswick, where he quickly distinguished himself as an exceptional student athlete. Driven to excel in every aspect of life, he earned numerous academic and athletic honors throughout his youth. His outstanding achievements earned him multiple scholarships and acceptance to the United States Naval Academy, where he would begin a remarkable journey of leadership, scholarship, and athletic success. He later continued his education at Webster University.
Although George enjoyed many sports, wrestling was his greatest passion. As a standout wrestler at South Brunswick High School, he earned statewide recognition, placing third in the New Jersey State Wrestling Championships in 1979. He remains one of the most accomplished athletes in South Brunswick High School history.
George continued his wrestling career at the United States Naval Academy and the US Marine Corp, where he became an NCAA Division I All-American wrestler. As of 2025, he remains one of only two African American wrestlers in the Academy's history to earn this distinguished honor. During his collegiate career, George recorded 89 victories, securing his place among the program's all-time wrestling greats. George was also inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. His years at the Naval Academy were among the proudest and most fulfilling of his life.
Never one to shy away from hard work, George balanced the demands of athletics, military service, education, and family with remarkable determination. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science in Applied Science Management and proudly served his country as a Captain in the United States Marine Corps. Committed to lifelong learning, he later earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Management from Webster University.
Following his military service, George enjoyed a successful professional career, holding leadership and management positions with several respected organizations, including DuPont, Merrill Lynch, Sunoco Products, and other management firms. Throughout his career, he was known for his integrity, discipline, and unwavering commitment to excellence.
George leaves behind his children, George M. Fears Jr. and Christina Fears; his cherished grandson, Khai Cooper; his brothers, Ronald Fears and David Fears; his sister, Tina Fears; and a host of extended family members, dear friends, former teammates, military brothers and sisters, and colleagues.
Though he will be deeply missed, George's legacy of service, leadership, and perseverance will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved and remembered him.
