Alphonso K. Moore Jr. 58, of Matawan, NJ also known as "Poppy," departed this life peacefully on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ.

He attended the Matawan Aberdeen School District graduating in 1983 from Matawan Regional High School. He furthered his education at Union Technical Institute. He was a faithful member of Second Baptist Church on Orchard Street in Matawan.  He also was a long-time member of the Shore Knights of Matawan.

Poppy was the hardest working person and took pride in his career and his many accomplishments.  He was never without a job. At a young age his first job was delivering newspapers. Later he dispatched for Patsy's Taxi Service in Matawan and worked for the local Road Department. He was employed as a dispatcher for the Matawan Police Department for 9 years. He also was a First Line Supervisor and Technical Specialist at Dupont in Parlin, NJ from 2001 until his passing.

Poppy loved the great outdoors, enjoying fishing at Keyport Waterfront, gardening, traveling whenever he could, shopping at Columbus Market and taking walks. He entered numerous 5k walks and participated in two annual Marathons at Rutgers University.  He had a huge designer watch collection that just kept growing. But most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends showing off his skills on the BBQ grill.  He was the “Grill Master” and a great cook.  He was so proud when he purchased his home, nicknamed the Ponderosa. He enjoyed life.

Poppy was a loving person that would do anything you needed him to do. Just from his heart without you even having to ask.  He just was that someone SPECIAL to everyone that he knew.  He was one of the kindest people to ever walk this Earth. He loved everyone but most of all, he loved his Family!!

He was predeceased by his sister, Jacqueline Marie Moore, and brothers Anthony Williams and Derrick Moore.

He leaves to forever cherish his life his loving mother, Joann Moore of Matawan, NJ; father, Alphonso Moore Sr. Asbury Park, NJ; sisters Cheryl Moore, Manchester, NJ and Tamika Jones (Anthony) Matawan, NJ; grandmother Martha Lee Jackson Matawan, NJ; two that he called his own Jarrad Mandeville-Lawson and Diandra Arthurton; best friend, Robert Curry and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Words seem inadequate to express the sorrow felt by the passing of Poppy. I fondly remember the first time I met him at Jackie’s house…it was like I had known him my entire life. Poppy’s smile, like Jackie’s, was magnetic and his spirit, like Jackie’s, was warm and welcoming. My first taste of the ribs he grilled had me hooked! I often joked with Jackie that her ribs were really good, but they weren’t Poppy’s ribs! I pray that the reflection of love, laughter and light that Poppy brought forth will continue to shine in the hearts of all who love him. My heartfelt love and sympathy to the Moore Family; you all will remain in my prayers.
