Ruth Marion Dorothy Brown Bogle—affectionately known as Mama Ruth—was a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and dear friend. She passed away peacefully at home on October 29th, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones, at the age of 91.

Ruth was born on May 2nd, 1934, in Portland, Jamaica, West Indies. She was the second child of Albena Claretha Wegner and Louis Augustus Brown. Ruth was a charismatic, bold, and feisty woman who also carried herself with grace and sophistication. She valued excellence and believed things should always be done properly.

Her deep love for people and her compassionate spirit led many to refer to her home as “Refuge Temple.” She found joy in caring for others and always extended a helping hand to those in need. Ruth also had a passion for sports and loved watching soccer, cricket, and softball with her grandson, Fernando.

She held various jobs throughout her life and moved to Kingston in the late 1960s. In 1973, she began working with the Ministry of Youth and Community Development Services as a house mother for delinquent children. She served with unwavering dedication until retirement. Ruth was also an active member of the 4-H organization and shared her talents as a skilled caterer.

In the early 2000s, she migrated to the United States and became a certified Home Health Aide, continuing to work compassionately until the age of 80.

In 2002, Ruth rededicated her life to Jesus Christ and was baptized at Community Worship Center, Church of God of Prophecy, in Neptune, NJ, where she remained a faithful and devoted member until her passing. Over the years, she developed a deeply personal relationship with her Lord and Savior. In her final days, she often recited the Lord’s Prayer with her granddaughter Ahsali and could be heard singing songs of worship. She found strength and peace in reading the Word of God daily and shared daily devotions with her daughter Dailia until her final days.

Ruth was predeceased by her brother, Wilhelm Brown, and her daughter, Paula Jackson Lewis.

She is lovingly remembered by her husband, DeWitt Bogle Sr.; her daughters, Marcia, Dailia, Sandria, and Janice; her stepdaughter, Donna; her son, DeWitt Jr.; and her stepson, Osrick. Her legacy also lives on through her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and the lifelong friends who became family.

Rest in heavenly peace, Mama Ruth.
