SERVICE DETAILS
John Wallace Washington, Jr. was born in Neptune, NJ on April 12, 1946 to the late Mildred Meads Washington and John Wallace Washington, Sr. Upon graduation from Neptune Memorial High School, John entered service in the Unites States Army and served full active duty. He was stationed in Germany and West Africa where he operated in Communications and Logistics Supply. John was honorably discharged from service in 1971.
Upon being discharged from military service John remained in the trucking and logistics industry and worked for the beverage distributor Canada Dry in Neptune, New Jersey. He then transitioned to long haul trucking and worked for Fast Forward Trucking of New Jersey. John served as a driver and dispatcher assisting in expanding the company to great success and ultimately retired, earning a gold Rolex watch he was very proud to have earned.
Mr. Washington affectionately known as “Big Daddy” loved people and could talk to anyone anywhere and often would do just that! John never met a stranger. He was an avid New York Giants fan and would brag about it. After retiring John worked part time at Guiding Light Behavior Health Neptune, NJ where he was a driver and logistics coordinator. He enjoyed working with the residents and the staff. In 1997 Mr. Washington took a full-time position with the Asbury Park Board of Education where he worked as a boiler operator and in custodial services for 26 years until retiring for a second time in 2023.
John was a lifelong member of Good Hope Baptist Church in Asbury Park, NJ under the direction of Pastor David Harrington where he sang in the Men’s Chorus. In his later years he transferred his membership to The Sanctuary AME Zion Church of Neptune, NJ under Pastor T.R. McAllister (his grandson) where he faithfully served as a trustee. John remained to serve The Sanctuary under his co-worker and friend Rev. Benjamin Evans, where he was faithful and could be seen often and on time greeting people at the door. John was a respectable and honorable man who worked to provide for his family and had a loving personality that was large as life.
John was pre-deceased by his parents Mildred Meads Washington and John Wallace Washington, Sr., his daughter Cammy Hines, his grandson Nabate Washington.
He leaves to mourn and cherish life his loving wife Carlolyn Washington; children: Melissa Berrin (Danelle), Celeste Johnson and Andrew Mitchell; bonus children: Lori Latimore (Alphonso), Karen Eady, Dawn Planter (Robert), Sasha Clarke, and Todd Pope, Sr; grandchildren: Tyhiesa Hines, Arabia Washington, Ameer Washington, Quadere Washington and five Additional grands in Arizona; bonus grandchildren: Tyron McAllister, Kimberly Puryear, Trevor Nikarthil Puryear (Vibin), Kristopher Puryear (Tiffany), Robert Planter, Jr. Esq., Maya Dawn Planter, Garnet Clarke, Randy Eady, Logan Clarke and Todd Pope, Jr; great-grandchildren: Zuri Washington & Zaire Washington; bonus great-grandchildren: Tyron McAllister, Jr. Elijah McAllister, Airyana Puryear, Kristopher Puryear, Kione Puryear, Jacob August Pharel, Kalia Eady, Kyla Eady and two caring aunts Mary Robinson and Thelma Robinson of Maryland.
