Robert Dennis Royster, 85, of Keyport, NJ, affectionately known as "Denny," passed away peacefully at home on June 2, 2026. Born on January 17, 1941, in Long Branch, NJ, to Robert and Ersell Royster, Denny was raised in the Matawan School District. His youth was spent by the lake, where he was known for his love of swimming and his daring dives off the trellis. A local talent from an early age, he was crowned the marbles champion at the Annual Monmouth County Marbles Tournament when he was just 14. He eventually married his sweetheart, Lucille, with whom he built a life and raised three beautiful children.

Denny dedicated many years of his life to a career as a warehouse specialist for Wakefern Food Corporation. A man of remarkable character and a legendary work ethic, he rarely missed a single day of work until his well-earned retirement in 2003. Throughout his career, his warmth and reliability earned him many lifelong friends among his colleagues. Outside of work, Denny was a passionate gardener and a skilled carpenter. He found peace tending to his garden from dawn until dusk, and no visitor ever left his home without a bag of fresh, delicious vegetables. His craftsmanship was evident in the raised garden beds he built himself; he had a gift for seeing the potential in every piece of wood, turning simple scraps into beautiful planters, tables, or shelves. He cherished the arrival of spring, spending hours on his deck or front porch, where he greeted every neighbor with a friendly word. He also found joy in fishing, watching westerns and gardening shows, sitting by the water, and testing his luck with the lottery.

Community was deeply important to Denny. At the time of his passing, he was the oldest living member of the Shore Knights S.A.C. As a dedicated and active member, he was always the first to arrive at meetings and the first to volunteer his carpentry skills to fix or build whatever the organization needed.

Above all, Denny's greatest pride and joy were his grandchildren, who lovingly called him "Pop Pop." His face lit up every time they walked through the door, and they, in turn, adored visiting him—knowing that Pop Pop always had a special treat waiting for them.

Denny was predeceased by his beloved parents, Robert and Ersell Royster; his devoted wife, Lucille Royster; his brothers, James, John, and Albert Royster; and his daughter, Bridget Royster. He leaves behind a profound legacy of love and is survived by his three sisters, Janice Williams, Barbara McLeod, and Florence Royster; his children, Allen Royster (Tracy) and Joanne Royster (Derek); and his loving partner, Linda Creamer. His memory will be cherished by his grandchildren, Jennifer (Serafin), Melissa, Jasmine, Matthew, Damion, Malea, Somaya, Zena, Karter, and Jace, along with a host of in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Shore Knights S.A.C.Scholarship Fund. Address - 21 Orchard Street, Matawan, NJ 07747
