OBITUARY
SERVICE DETAILS
In Loving Memory of our beloved Darlene Denise Hyman, a kind and generous soul. She gained her wings peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on December 19, 2024. Her warmth, laughter, and unyielding spirit will forever be cherished by those who had the honor of knowing her.
Darlene, a lifelong resident of Keyport, was a hardworking woman whose last place of employment was Bayshore Hospital, Holmdel, NJ, before the closure of Sunshine Biscuits, Sayreville, NJ.
She was a culinary expert that enjoyed every element of the food experience. From scanning the sale books and shopping for the ingredients, to cooking meals to perfection with plenty of love. She also had a passion for music that was the soundtrack of her life, especially the slow jams which she cherished. Her collection of records was legendary and she could often be found singing along to her favorite tunes by Luther Vandross or The Whispers.
Darlene’s passion for collecting extended beyond music. She adored African art, drawn to its vibrant expressions of culture and history, and her beloved collection of copper elephants symbolized her strength and wisdom. These treasures were a reflection of her creative and soulful nature. Darlene also had an excitement for playing the lottery and had dreams of hitting it big one day!
To know Darlene was to love her. She had a way of sharing jokes and telling stories that made everyone join in her infectious laughter. She had a special bond with her sisters, nieces, nephews, and cousins calling them on the phone and bringing them to laughter in every conversation.
Darlene is predeceased by her parents, John and Bertha Rice Hyman.
Darlene is survived by her life partner Izaih Smith, Keyport; sisters Veronica Cancelrivera (William) Hazlet, NJ, Tonya Hornsby (Godday) Manalapan, NJ; brothers Rodney Shields and David Washington, nieces and nephews Jonquil Hyman, Alia Hyman, Ishmael Hyman, Kiera Carter (Jermaine) and a host of loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Rest in peace Darlene. May your voice forever echo among the melodies you loved so dearly.
