SERVICE DETAILS
David William Scott, Jr., a beloved veteran, family man, and friend, peacefully passed away on January 19, 2026, at the age of 93. He was born on September 18, 1932, in Montclair, New Jersey, to the late David W. Scott, Sr. and Pauline Williams Scott. David lived a life marked by service, strength, and style.
David was raised in Montclair and educated in the Essex County School District, graduating from Montclair High School in 1952. At the age of 20, he proudly answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Air Force, where he served honorably during the Korean War—an experience that shaped his lifelong sense of duty and pride.
Following his military service, David built a strong work ethic that carried him through a successful career with the New Jersey Department of Transportation. He also worked as an owner-operator, earning the respect of colleagues and friends for his dedication and reliability.
Known as a sharp dresser with a warm smile, David enjoyed life’s simple pleasures. He loved socializing with friends, traveling, watching westerns, and spending peaceful days fishing. He attended Calvary Baptist Church in Red Bank, New Jersey.
David was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Hester Strickland Scott, and his stepmother, Myrtle Scott.
He leaves behind cherished memories with those who loved him, including his sisters-in-law, Memphis Olean Keen, Indiana Hairston of Martinsville, Virginia, and Blanche Strickland of Ridgeway, Virginia; three special and loving cousins, Clove Scott Mills, Alsie Fay Scott Daly, and Karl Scott; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever remember his kindness, wisdom, and gentle spirit.
David William Scott, Jr., was a big-hearted man who lived his life fully and with joy. Those whom he leaves will remember him with love.
The family extends special thanks to the staff of DaVita Atlantic Artificial Kidney Center in Eatontown, New Jersey; Complete Care of Shrewsbury in Shrewsbury, New Jersey; ABBA Transportation; and Home Helpers Home Care (Bennett Foli) for their compassionate care and support.
