DOLORES HARRIS-JOHNSON was born on September 28, 1946, in Valdosta, Georgia. She was the second oldest child born to the late Acie Harris Sr. and Willie Beatrice Wright Harris. At an early age her family moved to the shore of Long Branch, NJ where she was raised. Dolores was a graduate of Long Branch Senior High School class of 1964 where she was a member of the mighty “Green Wave” Long Branch High School Marching Band as a Flag Majorette.

Dolores received her Christian education and spiritual guidance at Second Baptist Church, Long Branch, NJ under the leadership of the late Reverend Cornelius P. Williams where she was baptized at an early age.

On May 20, 1967, Dolores married John Wesley Johnson Jr. of Trenton, NJ and became not only his wife but also his lifelong friend and soulmate where they labored together for over 50 years. From this union they were blessed with a wonderful son, Carl Anthony Johnson.

Dolores started her career as a Secretary with the Prudential Insurance Agency in Newark, NJ. After her beloved husband John was discharged from service with the U.S. Air Force they moved their small family to reside in Washington, DC Metropolitan Area where they resided for more than 50 years. Dolores began her career as a Legal Secretary at smaller Legal Firms only to work her way up the corporate ladder to become a Senior Legal Secretary at some of the Fortune 500 Legal Firms in the Metropolitan Area. Her career as a Legal Secretary spanned over 40 years until retirement. During those years she had achieved an Associate Degree in Business Administration from Northern Virginia Community College along with a Technical Degree in Stenography.

John and Dolores joined the Metropolitan AME Church as a beloved and devoted couple. She served in the Senior Women’s Choir and as a Church Board Secretary before stepping down due to health issues. Dolores departed this life peacefully on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at Mt. Vernon Hospital, Alexandria, VA.
