Mrs. Ella Lee Mitchell (Gran) was born on October 13, 1920 in Browns, Alabama to the late John and Lucy Gutridge and was called home to the Lord on June 17, 2021. She was the youngest of 10 siblings. Ella attended the Alabama School System and later moved to Cliffwood, New Jersey in 1946 to help her brother and his family. Ella met and married the late Joseph Mitchell and they had four children.
Ella worked as a presser at various clothing factories. She sold Stanley products and was a caretaker for family members and those in the community. Ella was an active member at Providence Baptist Church serving as a Sunday school teacher, a choir member and a missionary worker until her health declined. Ella was also an Eastern Star. She loved to cook. Her best dishes & dessert were everything soup, cabbage and sweet potato pies. Gran shared many stories about her life experiences. She imparted wisdom, love and kindness to all who came in contact with her.
Ella is predeceased by her two sons Edward Gutridge and Henry Mitchell as well as a granddaughter Lamara Hill.
She is survived by her two daughters Hazel Gutridge and Delores McCormick, 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Although she will be greatly missed, we will always remember the love and laughter she bought to all of us.
