Evelyn "Dottie" Logan, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2019 at the Monmouth Care Center in Long Branch, NJ.  She was 87.

Dottie was born on September 22, 1931 in Powhatan County, VA during an era of extreme poverty.  When she was five, her parents Alma and Landress Henderson moved the family to Riverhead, NY where she attended school.  Although her education was fragmented due to family obligations to work in the fields, she was still able to achieve one of the highest scores on the NY Regents Examination.

As the eldest of seven, Dottie will always be revered as the big sister that left home to take a domestic job and return for Christmas with bags of gifts and a TV for her younger siblings.  She was a kind, loving and generous lady, and in return was adored by family and numerous friends.

Dottie was an avid reader and frequently went to the library.  She enjoyed baking and was sought after by friends and family to bake for events and to make her delicious brownies.  She loved to listen to the blues while decorating her house and maintained good hospitality.  Dottie was employed as a nurse's aide and possessed an excellent bed-side manner.

Her first union of marriage was to Wilfred Chestnut and through that union Woody and Lenny Chestnut were born.  She later married Donald Logan and from that union Roni, Jimmy and Tommy Logan were born.  Despite living in Long Branch, NJ for many years where she raised her children, she always proclaimed Riverhead, NY as her home.

She was predeceased by her husband, Donald Logan; brother Landress Henderson; sister Lillian Montague and firstborn son Wilfred Chestnut.

She is survived by her brothers Leonard Henderson and Myron Henderson (Peggy); sisters Alma Wells (Joe) and Caulie Robinson (Eugene); three sons Roland Leonard Chestnut, Donald James Logan (Lauren) and Edward Thomas Logan (Lourdes); one daughter Veronica Michelle Jones; 17 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and a host of nieces and nephews.
