George E. Townsend, Jr. was born on July 20, 1945, in Brooklyn, NY to George and Alice Townsend. He departed this life at his home in Lakewood, NJ on July 25, 2022.
George attended Red Bank High School in Redbank, NJ and continued his education at St. Paul's College in Lawrenceville, Virginia. While attending St. Paul's College, he pledged Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. He graduated in May 1966 with a degree in chemistry.
George held various positions in the corporate arena; US Steel Corporation, Human Resources Department in Lodi, NJ; The International Flavors & Fragrances, Human Resources Management Department in Union Beach, NJ; Bendix Corporation, Human Resources Department as a recruiter in Tinton Falls, NJ.
George was a devoted dad and granddaddy. He enjoyed traveling to the District of Columbia for holidays and to attend his son's wedding and to attend his son's and grandson's promotions and graduations.
He was an avid reader, especially fond of historical events. George was a great debater on most topics. Whenever James Bond had a new movie, George was there. Whenever a James Bond DVD was on sale, he owned it. George probably knew the James Bond script.
George was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Ernest Tucker and nephew, Phillip Pearsall.
Dearly loved by his family, he leaves to cherish his memories one son, George E. Townsend, III (Candice), Clinton, MD; grandsons Montego and Niles Townsend, Clinton, MD, his former wife and friend, Gloria Townsend, LaCrosse, VA; two sisters Pamela Townsend-Maurer (Peter), Matawan, NJ, Adrienne Townsend Sprouse, MD, Manhattan, NY; one brother, William Hinton, Eatontown, NJ; two nieces Daphne Buffaloe and Pernice Walker and one nephew, Majid Quarles and a host of great nieces and nephews.
