INTERMENT
Private

Gertrude Christine LaRue, daughter of the late Robert and Zella Vail Davenport, was escorted by angels from her earthly home to her heavenly home on Wednesday, September 22, 2021.

Gertrude, or more affectionately known as "Christine" was born in New York on July 28, 1942.  Christine moved to Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey at an early age and attended Navesink Elementary School and graduated from Middletown Township High School.

As a very young child, Christine's spiritual journey began at Quinn Chapel AME Church in Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey.  One of the "happy places" in Christine's life was being in church.  Christine was employed by McGraw Hill in Hightstown, New Jersey and Lily Tulip in Holmdel, New Jersey.  In 1988, Christine relocated to Washington, DC where she was employed by and retired from Howard University Hospital.  In 1999, she returned to her beloved New Jersey, where she lived until her transition.

Christine met and married, Charles Norman LaRue; "the boy next door," "her childhood sweetheart" and "the love of her life."  Of this union two children were born; a son Troy Aaron LaRue and a daughter, Josclyn LaRue-Lewis.

Christine enjoyed family gatherings, had a keen eye for fashion, interior design, not to mention her ability to graciously entertain guest and "throw a good party."  She also loved a good debate, to read, to travel and to shop.  Before her health began to decline, plans were for her to move to Pennsylvania with her daughter and son-in-law.  Further, it was imperative that once settled, that they conduct a search to find the perfect church home.  In addition, she had begun planning for her 80th birthday party which she wanted to celebrate in "grand style."

Christine is predeceased by her parents, Robert and Zella Davenport, husband and best friend, Charles Norman LaRue.

She leaves to mourn and cherish her memory a son, Troy LaRue, Josclyn LaRue Lewis (Frank); three granddaughters Ciera and Amber Lewis, Tori LaRue, a grandson Frank Lewis Jr. and a great child to be.  Special childhood friends Josclynne Grier, Judith Anderson-Cowad, Janice Cox and Corrine Mercer.  Special cousins Norma Smith, Barbara Scott and Kathy Tunison.  A special nephew, William (Billy) Brown, who was always available whenever needed.  A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends.

We loved you, but God loved you best.  May you always rest in eternal peace.
