James Jones Jr., 90, found rest in the arms of our Savior on March 2, 2024, at home while surrounded by his loving family. He was born to James Jones Sr. and Jessie Green, on July 6, 1933, in Columbus, Georgia.
James served in the United States Army from September 30, 1955, to August 16, 1956. His Military career led him to Monmouth County where he met and married his forever love, Bernice Harris. To this union, was added one son, Cazzie Jones.
James retired from the Long Branch Board of Education in 1998. James, lovingly referred to as, “Jones,” was loved and adored by all who met him. His warm smile and friendly greeting were contagious. His words of encouragement, sense of humor and loving support will always be remembered and greatly missed.
He was a phenomenal husband, provider, friend, and partner to Bernice Jones for 67 years. He was the patriarch to the Stafford family. Jones loved to sing. He always had a song of praise ready to share at any moment. He was a member of Calvary Baptist church, where he was a staple in the Men’s choir and Gospel chorus. He served on the Trustee board, and he was also a member of the Usher Board for many years.
James is predeceased by his parents, and his sister, Debbie Jones.
James is survived by his wife, Bernice Jones; son, Cazzie Jones (Kasey); grandson James Jones; granddaughter Kiera; Goddaughter, Shavonne Hamilton; niece, Margaret Stafford; nephew, George Stafford III (Charee) and a host of grand-nieces, grand-nephews, and friends.
