SERVICE DETAILS
On the afternoon of February 24, 2023, the angel of silence came into the room at Hackensack Meridian Hospice in Neptune, NJ. Her soul winged its flight from this world of sin, sorrow, and pain to the waiting arms of Our Heavenly Father.
Leila Herb, 98, of Neptune, NJ passed away on February 24, 2023. Leila was born to the late Thomas Floroy and Johnney Jackson of Georgia. She was in a family consisting of 7 siblings born to Thomas and Johnney. She was raised and educated in Lakeland, FL. She relocated to Nashville, TN to attend Tennessee Agricultural & Industrial State College where she received her BS Degree. After relocating to Asbury Park, NJ she attended Montclair State University in Montclair, NJ where she received her Master’s Degree in Social Work. Lastly, she attended Monmouth Bible Institute, Farmingdale, NJ where she received her BA Degree in Evangelical Education.
She met and later married Elwood Herb on August 3, 1949. The marriage produced three siblings Rodney Herb (Florida), Panthea Herb (NJ) and Dorothy Van Dyke (California).
She accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior and started her Christian Journey at Harmony Missionary Baptist Church in Lakeland, FL where she fully served as a Soloist and member of the Church Choir. After relocating to Asbury Park, NJ she became a member at Second Baptist Church in Asbury Park where she faithfully served on the Women’s Usher Board.
On March 4, 1986 she became a member of Faith Fellowship Ministries World Outreach Center, Sayreville, NJ where she faithfully served as a Counselor, Prayer Room Worker, Home Bible Fellowship Teacher and Usher.
She began working for Skylark Original, Asbury Park and was a dedicated Supervisor for 5 years. She then went on to work for the Monmouth County Division of Social Services as a Social Worker Supervisor until she retired in 1999.
Leila was a beautiful person who spread joy and happiness wherever she went. She was a wonderful mother who was always there when we needed her. She also had many friends and was a well-loved member of the community in Asbury Park and Neptune. She was a faithful servant who truly loved the Lord. Her favorite Scripture was Mark 11:24.
Preceding her in death were her beloved husband Elwood Herb and daughter Dorothy Van Dyke.
She leaves to mourn and cherish her memory, her son Rodney Herb (LeHigh Acres, FL), her daughter Panthea Herb (Neptune, NJ), her grandson Bennett Garcia (Neptune, NJ), her granddaughters Crystal, April and Ashley Van Dyke (San Diego, CA) and her nephew Tyrone Hodge (Lakeland, FL).
