Myrtice Gaines Bouie was born September 15, 1925, in Attapulgus, GA to the late Virgil Gaines Sr. and Alto Hines Gaines. She stepped from earth to glory on February 26, 2022, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center.
Myrtice attended the Attapulgus School System. She met and married Johnnie Bouie Sr., in 1944 and from that union 9 children were born; 4 of which preceded her in death. Myrtice was a life-long member of Mt. Olive Holy Temple Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Elder Hardie Griffen; later pastored by Elder Samuel J. Williams and presently pastored by Bishop Martin Luther Johnson. She loved her church and her pastors. She was a dedicated member of the usher board. She also loved gospel music and attended many gospel programs during her younger days. Myrtice was employed at Fitkins Hospital now known as Jersey University Medical Center for over 30 years. She also did private duty work. Her love for her children lead Myrtice to become a foster mother for an unlimited number of children. She loved to cook and was a master at baking pies, making cakes and you would never forget her biscuits.
She was predeceased by her husband Johnnie Bouie Sr., parents Virgil and Alto Gaines, 10 sisters and 2 brothers, her children Hannah Jones aka Mama Joe, Ruth Akila Sweet, Veronica Jean Bouie and Gail Lynn Bouie.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories children Henrietta Bouie aka Rett, Johnnie Bouie Jr. (Hester), Delores Baker, Gregory Bouie (Tanyna), Emmit James Bouie; nieces Ethel Beasley Dozier, Geraldine Wright, and Helen Wilmore; 27 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren plus a host of other relatives.
