Tanya Earline Washington was born on November 14, 1951, to Margie Ivory and Lamar Earl Washington. She graduated from Long Branch High School in 1971, where her favorite subjects were English and Math. Tanya had a passion for sports, excelling in track and field and gymnastics.

Following high school, Tanya pursued her education at the Princeton Computer Institute, earning a Certificate in Computer Programming in 1972. She furthered her studies at the Brick Computer Science Institute, obtaining a diploma in 1973, and also attended Brookdale Community College.

Tanya was a devoted mother to her three sons. She cared for them deeply, ensuring their needs were always met, and provided them with love and guidance. Known as the “neighborhood mom,” Tanya welcomed her children’s friends into her home and treated them as her own, earning their love and respect in return.

She had a zest for life and a wide array of interests. Tanya loved cooking, reading, roller skating, singing, dancing, horseback riding, spending time at the beach, playing video games, solving word puzzles, and, most of all, caring for her pets. Whether dogs or cats, Tanya’s love for animals was boundless.

Over the years, Tanya worked at Brockway Glass Company in Freehold, NJ. After its closure, she held roles in retail at stores like Steinbach and JCPenney.

Tanya is predeceased by her parents, Margie Ivory and Lamar Earl Washington, as well as her siblings Louis Washington and Teala Quarterman. Her loving spirit and kind heart will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband of 43 years, George Seward Jr.; her sons, Kareem Washington (Carla), Keishawn Seward, and Kiril Seward; her grandchildren: Jaden Washington, Kaya Washington, Cayden Washington, Anjai Seward, Murad Seward, Keile Seward, McKinsey Seward, Jordan Seward, and Jason Seward; her brother, Lamont Washington; nieces Jaleena Anthony and Joann Pennington; nephews Lydell Washington, Tyrone Redding, and Shamar Washington; along with great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family, and a host of dear friends.

Tanya’s warmth, love, and generosity will remain forever in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.
