Viola Lula Holmes Threatt, also known as Babe, daughter of the late Lillian and George Holmes passed away peacefully at her home on May 31, 2024. She was born on June 23, 1935. After over 30 years of service at Fort Monmouth, she retired in October 1998 as a Project Management Specialist. She attended Long Branch Public Schoos, but because of severe health issues, she never attended kindergarten. In 1947, she temporarily left Long Branch Public Schools and attended school at Bordentown Industrial School in Bordentown, NJ. After two years, she returned to Long Branch High School and worked after school at Monmouth Memorial Hospital as a Candy Striper. After retiring from Fort Monmouth, she volunteered at the Long Branch Food Panty with her sister the late Greta Butler for many years. Viola wrote stories, was an avid reader and was an unbeatable Scrabble player. Viola loved baseball and was a devoted fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers since they were at Ebbett Field in New York in the 1950’s. She knew everything and anything there was to know about her favorite team. She was also a fan of country western music and loved history. She loved to dance and would go to Star 50 on Hwy 35, Eatontown, across from the west gate at Fort Monmouth with her sister in the 1990’s. She loved oldies but goodies.

In March 1956, she married George Threatt, Jr. and they had three children. She is predeceased by a son David George Threatt, five brothers, Herman, George, Roger, Oliver, and David and three sisters Greta (Holmes) Butler, Harrilyn (Holmes) Dirickson and Olive Holmes.

She is survived by three sisters, Marva (Holmes) Hurt, Karen (Holmes) Westwood and Norma (Holmes) Martin.

Viola leaves behind two daughters, Lillian Viola Threatt and Marva Jean (Threatt) Lamb; a loving relative Yvette (Bell) Dowdell; six grandchildren, Sherre, David, Kurtis, Damaine, Bryan and Leonard along with a host of relatives and friends.
