Zelma Jones Pennington of Long Branch passed away July 12, 2020 in her home.  Zelma was born July 23rd 1939 in Baltimore, Maryland later moving to Red Bank, NJ.  She settled down in Long Branch in 1965.  Zelma began her career in community service working as an outreach coordinator working up the ladder at Check-Mate in Asbury Park, NJ as the Chief Planner responsible for the development of grant applications and implementing programs.  She retired in 2002.

She was predeceased by her parents John S. Roddy and Thelma Jones Roddy.

Surviving are five brothers and sisters John S. Roddy Jr., Joanne Roddy, Adrienne Bryant (Myron), Waymond Roddy and Mary Roddy.  She leaves behind her only child Dorian L. Brothers; five grandchildren Zelma Brothers (deceased), Myson Pennington, Joann Pennington, Louis Pennington and Amber Pennington.  Best friend Elsie and Charles Mitchell II, Colleen Mitchell and Dee Dee Mitchell of Irvington, NJ; 16 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
