OBITUARY
SERVICE DETAILS
Dawn Everett was born to Ehcnalb Lightbourne and Robert Everett on March 18, 1961.
Dawn lived in Long Branch, NJ for most of her life. That is where she met her husband, Pete. That union joined two individual people to make one family that consisted of a tribe: Darnell Toon (Delaware), Sasha Everett (NJ), Juanicia “Cotton” Everett (Willie) (GA), Torey Toon (NJ), Iaisha Marsh (NC), Belinda Foster (NJ), Johnnetta Everett (GA), LaToya Daniels (VA), Estelle Marsh (NC) and LaTandra “Bummy” Daniels (WVa). She moved to Georgia in March 2014, shortly after her medical diagnosis.
Dawn was a true fighter, both physically and mentally with a heart as big as her smile. Dawn was the neighborhood Aunt. She didn’t take any mess. As a matter of fact, most people would threaten their kids with, “Don’t make me call Dawn.” She dropped out of school when she was 16 years old because she had two children, was working a full-time job and had an apartment. We are proud to say that she earned her GED in the early 1990’s. Prior to her diagnosis, she received an Associate’s Degree in Mental Health Counseling: Addiction Studies. She worked at Lancome L’Oreal in Clark, NJ for several years as a Manager prior to a work accident that caused her to have back surgery. The last job she had before her diagnosis was with Morning Glory in Neptune, NJ. She was a member of Second Baptist Church in Long Branch, NJ and became a member of Golden Memorial United Methodist Church in Douglasville upon her move to Georgia. She sang in the choir and taught Sunday School while in GA. She would do whatever was within her power to help someone, if it was something that she was interested in. Dawn was very creative. She was an interior designer as well as an event coordinator. She was well known for designing flower centerpieces. If she was at your event and it was jacked up, she would intervene, even if you didn’t ask her to do so. She loved to listen to gospel music and oldies but goodies. She loved to play some cards: Spades and Bid Whist. She spent hundreds of dollars and hours on thrifting.
Dawn was predeceased by her husband, James “Pete” Daniels; her mother, Ehcnalb Lightbourne; her father Robert Everett; her daughter, Ebony Everett; her son, Shaun Everett; her brother Michael Taylor; and her great-grandparents Edward and Dorothy Farrow.
Dawn took her final bow of her journey after kicking cancer’s butt for 11 ½ years on June 11, 2025. She is survived by her children; her siblings: Devin and Dionne Everett, Neiro “Tony” Lightbourne, all of Georgia and Ronda, Kyle and Deanna Lightbourne, all of Texas, and Curtis Taylor of New Jersey; mother by choice: Barbara Davis; sisters by choice: Tina Davis, Evelyn Wilkerson, Connie Booker Brown, and Danette Marvene Chapman Walker; her favorite cousin, Pamela Farrow; sons by choice: Layon Bashir Bennett, William Bowles, Keith Logan, Rasheed Mcleod, and Sammie True Stevens; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
And last but not least, she leaves to cherish her memory, her lifelong confidant, devoted friend, heart, soul ally, Demetrius “Denny” Everett. The love they have for each other is boundless.
We love and will miss you Dawn!!! Forever a Golden Memorial Alto/Tenor! Thank you for your gifts, energy and time with us 💜💜. Praying for you and the family, Dionne!! 🤍🕊️
