In Loving Memory of Mattie (Sharp) Taylor
Mattie Sharp Taylor was a beloved mother, wife, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and a woman whose presence brought warmth and joy to everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Mattie was a woman of strength, determination, creativity, and tremendous love. She proudly served her country as a Sergeant in the United States Army for 13 years. After completing her military service, she continued her career of service and dedication by becoming the manager of the Bakery and Deli at the Fort Monmouth, New Jersey Commissary. She later joined the United States Postal Service, where she worked as a letter carrier throughout the Princeton, New Jersey area. Wherever Mattie went, she made an impression. She was admired and loved by coworkers, friends, and members of the communities she served.
Beyond her accomplishments, Mattie will be remembered most for the love she gave so freely. She had an outgoing personality and a heart that made room for everyone. She was generous with her time, her resources, her laughter, and especially her love. Mattie had a natural creativity and a gift for making ordinary moments special.
She loved cooking, creating beautiful flower bouquets, and, of course, enjoying a good shopping spree. She could bring beauty into a room with flowers, comfort into a home with a meal, and happiness into someone’s day simply through her presence. Her generosity and vibrant personality made her unforgettable.
She was preceded in death by her brother James Booker, father Joe T. Sharp Sr., brothers Steven Sharp, and Joe T. Sharp Jr., and her beloved granddaughter Tamya Monet Sharp.
Mattie leaves to cherish her home-going, her mother Ruby Sharp Cannon of Hickory Flat, Mississippi; husband and step-son Adrian and Lamont Taylor of Tinton Falls, New Jersey; daughter, Felicia Sharp of Woodbridge, VA; two brothers Tommie Lee Sharp of Hickory Flat, Mississippi and Ricky (Wanda) Sharp of Canton, Mississippi; five sisters Bobbie S. Boggs of New Albany, Mississippi, Lue Sharp of Louisville, Kentucky, Diane (Eddie) Curry of Memphis, Tennessee, Anessa Sharp of Jackson, Mississippi and Regenna Williams of Collierville, Tennessee; three grandchildren Justice, Siréya, and Aleise; as well as a host of nephews, nieces, and cousins and other family members.
Mattie’s life was one full of service, love, resilience, creativity, and connection. She had a way of making people feel seen, welcomed, and cared for. Her laughter, generosity, strength, and unmistakable personality will remain in the hearts of those who loved her.
Though her physical presence is no longer with us, the love she gave, the memories she created, and the lives she touched will continue to live on through her family and through everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Rest peacefully, Mattie. Your work here is done, but your love will remain forever.
