Pearl Stokes, 97, of Tinton Falls, New Jersey, peacefully departed this life on August 23, 2026, at her home, surrounded by the comfort of familiar surroundings and the love of those who cared for her.
Pearl was born on March 12, 1929, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to the late Howard and Claudia Williams. She was the oldest of four siblings and the only daughter. Pearl was educated in the Middletown Township school system and spent her early years growing into the adventurous, spirited, and social woman her family and friends would come to know and love.
Pearl had a true love for life and an adventurous spirit. She enjoyed traveling and cherished opportunities to visit family and friends, particularly in New York and California. She spent time living in New York with relatives and made countless memories along the way. She also enjoyed trips to Atlantic City, where she could relax, socialize, and, as always, have a good time. Pearl had a wonderful sense of humor and a personality that could light up any room. She was known for her laughter, her beautiful smile, and her ability to make people feel welcome. Those who knew her often joked that she could have been a comedian because she always knew how to make people laugh.
After moving to Tinton Falls, Pearl joined Calvary Baptist Church, where she remained a faithful member for more than 40 years. Her faith became an important part of her life, and she built lasting relationships within her church and community. Pearl was united in marriage to the late Benjamin “Benny” Stokes, who proudly served in the United States Army Their marriage spanned 56 loving years. Together, Pearl and Benny shared a life filled with family, friendships, celebrations, travel, and countless cherished memories. They especially enjoyed spending holidays and special occasions with their family and traveling to visit loved ones.
Pearl dedicated many years of her professional life to the Federal Government, where she worked as a secretary, before eventually retiring. She was a dependable, hardworking, and caring woman who took pride in the life she built for herself and her family.
Pearl was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Benjamin “Benny” Stokes; her son, John; her brothers, Paul, Marion, and Howard Jr.; and her dear God-sister and lifelong friend, Lorraine.
Pearl leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, kindness, and unforgettable memories. She [eaves to cherish her memory her nephew and caregiver, Kerry; her granddaughter, Joann; her devoted family friend and caregiver, Dortheal Bryant; many great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, friends, and neighbors whose lives were touched by her warmth and generosity. Pearl was more than a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She was a loving presence in the lives of those around her—a woman with a good heart, a quick sense of humor, and a genuine love for people. She was a good neighbor, a devoted family member, and a true social butterfly who could turn an ordinary moment into a cherished memory.
Though she has departed this life, Pearl’s laughter, smile, stories, and loving spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her life was filled with love, family, faith, friendship, and many beautiful memories and she will be deeply missed
