Celestine "Celes" "Cee" Whitley-Barksdale, 75 of Long Branch, New Jersey passed away on Tuesday, April 27, 2021. Celes was well-known and well-received by many as a cafeteria aid for the Long Branch Middle School before retiring. Born in Detroit, Michigan she came to Long Branch along with her husband of 57 years, Alec Barksdale where both physically and affectionally she resided until her passing.
Celes was predeceased by her parents, Abraham Whitley and Fannie M. Bailey Brookins, her sisters Elnora Whitley, Georgia Whitley, Lizzie Smith, brothers Ira Clifton Brookins, James Ahab Brookins, Recarter Whitley, and Jackie Whitley.
Celes is survived by her husband, Alec Barksdale of Long Branch, NJ, her son Lionel (Dana) Barksdale of Florida and daughter Miesha (Raymond) Osborne of Maryland, her sister Fannie (Larry) Dozier of Mississippi, her brothers Nelson Brookins and Dexter (Gloria) Whitley of Mississippi; three grandchildren, Brianna, Harley, Temple and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
