Gregory Daryl Brabham, affectionately known as Daryl, graced this world on November 5, 1946, at Monmouth Medical Center, as the beloved son of the late Herman and Dorothy Brabham. He was born into a family of love, growing up as the eldest of three boys and a lifelong resident of Long Branch until his passing. On August 1, 2023, with his dedicated children at his side, Daryl peacefully departed at home.

Daryl's early years were marked by his radiant spirit and his distinct presence. A graduate of Long Branch High School, Class of 1966, he was truly one of a kind. He was a beacon of style, always displaying an innate flair for fashion that set him apart. Music found a special place in his heart, and it became a lifelong passion that he would pass on to generations to come. Alongside his brother Burpy, he co-founded the Mad Lads. A singing group where they would enter school contests and grace stages with their harmonious melodies, sharing their music wherever hearts would listen.

Daryl's high school days were highlighted by his sportsmanship as well. While he engaged in basketball, it was football where he truly shined. Yet, his athletic pursuits were not confined to the football field. Daryl's athletic excellence, extending to boxing, karate, softball, bowling, tennis, and even fishing. He was, without a doubt, a true sportsman at heart.

Post-graduation, Daryl's journey led him to the arms of his high school sweetheart, Judith Mernin, whom he married. Though their paths diverged, they shared the joy of raising three beautiful children. His love of nature led him to become a park ranger at Sandy Hook. His career journey continued through the NJ Natural Gas Company, where he dedicated years as a Meter Reader. Later, his professional path led him to Fort Monmouth until his retirement.

Daryl joins his parents, Herman and Dorothy Brabham, and his wife Judith (Judy) Brabham. His longtime partner, Darlene Rasmussen, and grandson Troy Brabham Jr. also await him in the embrace of eternity.

Daryl's memory lives vibrantly through his three cherished children: Daryl, Troy, and Tabatha; his brothers, Herman 'Burpy' Brabham Jr. (Sue) and Rory Brabham; four grandchildren – Lisette, Syasia, Sarayah, and Brett – and three great-grandchildren – Azzel, Asha, and Trueborn; countless nieces, nephews, relatives, and cherished friends, including his steadfast best friend Harold Brown and close friend Horace Thorne, gather to honor the man whose touch enriched their lives.

As we bid farewell to this remarkable soul, let us remember Gregory Daryl Brabham as a man who stood out in life's tapestry, leaving behind a trail of cherished memories, laughter, and the echoes of his favorite melodies.

Very sad to learn of Daryl’s passing. I met Daryl in 86 when we both were working at Ft. Monmouth. I used to to stop by and chat with him about sports especially High School Football. He would boast about how good he was and let him tell his Long Branch stories. Even though I was only 1 when he graduated
I asked him if he wore leather helmets in High School. Eventually I finally broke the news to him that my 82 Wall Knights beat his Long Branch Green Wave in the states. That was tough for him to hear. Daryl’s job on post was operating the incinerator Eventually it was closed down and I immediately recruited Daryl to come work for me. For almost 20 years I never considered myself as Daryl’s Supervisor but as his Friend. We made Great everlasting memories and we laughed a lot. We went our separate ways after the base closed but the memories we shared I will cherish forever. To Daryl’s children and siblings. He talked fondly of all of you often snd he a great person. God Speed to my Brother Daryl. See you on the other side…….
