SERVICE DETAILS
Helen Christina “Pie” Phillips Miller, 59, originally of Long Branch, NJ, passed away peacefully in her sleep surrounded by family on Wednesday, July 19, after a long battle with lung cancer.
“Pie” was born in Matawan, NJ on August 3, 1963, to the late John Nathan Phillips, Sr. and Dorothy Rebecca Bowles Phillips. She attended the local schools there. She was employed as a security guard at Bell Labs and also worked in food and hotel service. She retired after her health would no longer allow her to work.
She is preceded in death by both parents and three siblings, Wallace McKnight, Bernadine Lorraine Jackson, and Eugene Baskerville.
She leaves to celebrate and cherish her memory her husband of 21 years, Larry Miller; two children who she was the proud mother of Latandra R. R. Phillips of Barnegat and Eric Majette, Jr. of Atlanta, GA; three grandchildren, Lanyssia C. I. Velez, Jonathan Eric Velez, and Tahir M. Velez; two great grandchildren, Zaylen La’Davion Hughley and Zacari Armani Phillips; her bonus grandchildren, Raul Alvarado (Naday), Juwan Perry, Lanasia “LaLa” Johnson and Junior “June” Matheo; and 5 bonus great grandchildren; her eight beloved siblings Roosevelt Bowles (Valerie), Samuel Bowles, Caroline Burrell, John Nathan Phillips, Jr., David Brian Phillips, Sr. (Paulette), Charles McKnight (Tawana) and Dorothy Brewer (Mitch); In laws Karen Marie Burns Bowles, Joyce Winn, Linda Bowles, Charlene Thomas, Diana Baskerville, William Miller, Ronald Miller, Linda Miller, Lois Miller and Thomas Miller.
She also leaves to adore her loving memory two uncles, Herbert and David Bowles; two aunts, Helen Phillips and Cecilia Reevey (Pepper); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; her childhood best friends/bonus siblings, Molina Jackson, Eleanor “Ellie” Tyler and Ruben Suydam and her goddaughter, Kenyetta Morris.
Pie 🥧 you are one of my FAVORITE people 💯Your warm, kind, blunt, honest && LOVING 🥰. I know GOD has a place for you. EVERYTIME I hear the song “PONY” by Genuine 😁😁I will think of you! 🎯 Fifth Ave Forever. Love you Pie. P.s. ima have a drink 🥃 for you && in your words….
