James Kemp-6-12-2021

James A. Kemp 85, passed away peacefully at home, in Long Branch, NJ on June 6, 2021, with his loving family by his side.

James was born in Dawson, GA on May 13, 1936.  He was the 3rd child of the late David Lee Kemp & Eula Mae Kemp.  James was a faithful member of the Mount Moriah #2 Baptist Church in Climax, GA.

James received his formal education in the Terrell County School System in Dawson, GA.  He completed the 10th grade.  He always expressed his desire to further his education, but the family dynamics and culture at the time, meant work to support the family was priority; because of this James pushed education through his children.

After spending many years in Georgia & Florida James moved to Cliffwood, NJ.  He soon started working at Midland Glass.  After leaving Midland Glass, James started doing construction & Masonry work.  In his later years, he worked for the Eatontown school system and later retired.  After retirement he kept himself busy working odd jobs that utilized his handy skills.  He also enjoyed fishing and gardening which were things that bought him great joy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers A.D. Kemp, Rufus Kemp, Ralph Kemp and David Kemp Jr.; two sisters Daisy Shelton, Brownie Kemp and his loving daughter Chineeza Kemp-Harrell.

He leaves to mourn his passing and to cherish his memories his loving wife Betty Kemp; his loving children James E. Kemp of East Point, MI; LaToya Kemp of Long Branch, NJ and Rhonda Wright of High Point, NC; 5 siblings Martha Horne (Eddie Horne) of Havana, FL, Mattie Jones (Clarence Jones) of Miami, FL, Ira Harrel (Cosmore Harrell) of Cliffwood, NJ, Mack Kemp of Havana, FL and Curtis Kemp of Havana, FL; 5 grandchildren Brandon, Nicole, Brittany, Jaiohni and D'Andre; 3 great-grandchildren Zoel, Naomi and Ravon Jr.; 2 godchildren Sykerra Sprauldin of York, PA, Nicole Sprauldin of Neptune, NJ and a godson Sharrod Blake of Philadelphia, PA; along with a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
