Jeanette Elnora "Nettie" Platts was born January 11, 1933, to the late Bernice Logan Wright and Allan Wright.  She departed this life for her heavenly home on December 14, 2021.

Nettie was educated in the Long Branch Public School System.  She also was a graduate of the Bible Institute in 1966.  She was the matriarch of the Logan family and made sure everyone and everything was up to par at all times.  Nettie also was the community mom and granny to all.  She had a beautiful smile that was always shining.

Nettie was employed by the Long Branch Board of Education as a bus aide and para professional for 13 years until retiring.  She had a great love for all children and enjoyed taking them on trips and helping those with the greatest need.  In her spare time, she loved to do word searches and puzzles.

She was a true testament of faith.  Her favorite songs were, "If It Had Not Been For the Lord on My Side," and "I Won't Complain."  Nettie was a lifelong member of McLaughlin Pentecostal Faith Church of Long Branch, NJ.  Nettie married Willie Platts and from that union they had 12 children.  Nettie was also a strong disciplinarian to her extended family and neighborhood.  Her everyday routine was talking to her cousin, Spike, her sister, Crystal, and hanging with her special niece, Julia (Boo).  She was always bragging about the love she had for her children, Lucky's boys, "The Fab Five," and how much she loved the Lord.

Nettie was predeceased by her parents, her husband, her sons, Anthony (Pee Wee), Gordon (Ricky), and Clifton (Pookie); her daughters Delores (Dee Dee), Joyce and Jeanette; her sisters, Barbara Stokes, Jean Hastings, and Wanda Andino; her brother, Victor Turner; and her grandsons, Anthony, (Tony), Morgan and Harold (Keith) Wright.

She leaves to cherish her memory her sons, Stanley, Willie (Skeets), Oral and Eric (Teresa); her daughters, Oriene (Tinkie) and Allison Platts; her sister, Crystal Rogers, Oceanport, NJ; her brother Wayne (Elliott) Turner, Columbus, OH; her special friends, Lolita Smith Merrill, Jean Savage, Cecil McConville; Godchildren, Jerome (Peter), Maurice, Kendall and Kent; 20 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren; and 16 great-great grandchildren.  A special thanks to Florence Brown and Talesha Irizarry.

  1. Spike Walker, New York City says:

To the Entire Platts Family: “The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away, bless it be His name” I will greatly miss my dear
cousin “NETTIE”, she was my oldest cousin and I was her oldest cousin in this Logan Family. Our last time talking on the phone was that Sunday afternoon before she had the stroke, I said to her “don’t forget to watch “Whoopi Goldberg on the View” tomorrow morning, I’ll call back than, unless I have something to tell you, okay!
“Sunset a evening star and one clear call for me, and may there be no mourning at the bar when I sail out to sea”
Sleep on my dear first cousin “NETTIE” and take your rest, until we meet again , your loving first cousin “Spike, the Prophet”
