SERVICE DETAILS
SFC (Ret) Jerry James Russell, a loving Husband, Father, Brother, Uncle, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather was born on July 5, 1946, to the late Robert Russell, Sr and Eliza Russell in Munford, AL. Although he accepted Christ at an early age, he was a devout Jew and practiced the Jewish faith until his death.
After receiving his early and high school education at Ophelia School in Talladega County, he briefly moved to Buffalo, NY, and then enlisted in the United States Army. He honorably served in the US Army for 24 years and retired at Fort Monmouth Base in 1991. After retiring from the US Army, he worked at Brookdale Community until he retired in June 2019. While in the Army, stationed at Fort Monmouth, NJ, he met the love of his life, Carol Boyd. On Oct 19,1982, the two married and became unbreakable until the lord called Jerry home.
Jerry was known for his caring nature, always ensuring that everyone around him was very well taken care of. He deeply loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and found great joy in making them smile.
On August 26, 2024, surrounded by his immediate family, he answered the Master’s call. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Andriea Russell-Charleswell; his parents, Robert Russell, Sr., and Eliza Turner Russell; his brothers, William Russell, Donald Russell, Robert Russell, Jr., Dave Russell, Sr., and Woodrow Russell; and his sisters, Ethelena McNeal, Carolena Hughley and Nancy Sloan.
His memory will forever be cherished by his wife of 41 years, Carol Russell; daughter, Consuella Russell-Lacey (David); step-daughters, Tracey and Dondi Boyd; son, Parris Toyer (Toya); brother, Tommy (Mary) Russell; his sisters, Lola Madden, Margaret Estelle, Robbie (Leroy) Angel, Linda Russell-Doobay, and Brenda Russell-Johnson; Grandchildren: Quenteeria, Dariel, Brittany, LaBria, Jahmil, Tyiesha, and Keona; Great-Grandchildren: Arianna, Nyonna, and A’manyhae, and Grace; Special Nephew-Imayemem, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
His legacy of love and compassion will forever be cherished by his family and friends.

Jerry was a great friend and a true gentleman. May he rest in peace.
I was very fortunate to know and work with Jerry for the for past 3 years. We often discussed our common Jewish backgrounds, religious beliefs and heritage. He was a very intelligent, loyal and generous soul. He was a real mensch. My sincerest condolences to his loving family. He will be sorely missed. May his memory be a blessing.
