OBITUARY
SERVICE DETAILS
Deaconess Joanne Brown, affectionately known as Joey, was born on October 8, 1950, in Moultrie, GA, to the late William and Willie Mae Walker. She earned her heavenly wings on February 17, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, wisdom, and generosity that will never be forgotten.
After leaving Georgia, Joanne continued her education in the Asbury Park School District. She dedicated years of hard work to the Carlton Hotel in Asbury Park as part of the environmental services team. Later, she found her true calling in serving others at Checkmate Homeless Shelter in Fort Monmouth, NJ. Helping those in need was more than a job—it was a passion that reflected her kind and giving spirit.
Joanne Brown community services included political activism participating in every election in the community. She aided in every positive endeavor that would help our people, particularly the sick and suffering. Even with her limitations she would help serve those in need of food, shelter or words of inspiration
Joanne was baptized at Deliverance Temple of Asbury Park, where she served as a Deaconess and assistant to her pastor and friend Pastor Warren Hall.
Joanne is predeceased by her parents William and Willie Mae Walker, her brother William "June" Walker, and her sisters Doris and Elizabeth Walker.
She leaves behind a family who cherished her deeply: her children Selina Walker, Sonja Mack (Loshon), Tyhesha Mack, Jason O'Neal (Ayesha), Damion Wilson, Monique Copeland (Dequan), Jamal Wilson, Ryan Brown, Dante Brown, and Deanne Brown. She is also survived by her loving brother Billy Day (Carolyn), 28 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever carry her spirit in their hearts.
Though Joey has left this world, her laughter, wisdom, and unconditional love will live on in the lives she touched. Her legacy is one of strength, resilience, and generosity—one that will never fade.
