Maryann Conteh-1-14-2022

Maryann Thigpen Conteh left this side of life on Sunday, January 2, 2022 in Piscataway at home on hospice with family by her side.  She was born on June 24, 1956 in Long Branch, NJ to the late Ivy Thigpen and Selma Leak.  She was also the wife to her deceased husband Mohamed Conteh who departed this life in 2019.

Maryann graduated from Keyport High School in 1973.  She later went on to graduate from Brookdale Community College in Lincroft, NJ and then received her certification in Business Administration where she prepared taxes for many.  Maryann worked for 30 years as a claims specialist for Social Security then later retired in early December 2020.

One thing about Maryann she loved her cat Gypsy, she was a "cat lover," and she didn't play with anybody messing with her cat.  In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting.  Maryann would sew and make dresses, knit together blankets and other clothing items for family and friends.

Maryann was a woman of God who loved the Lord and believed in the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  She was a faithful member at Faith Community church in Jamesburg, NJ and served as the church secretary.  She loved spending time with her siblings as well as her church family.  She was a delight to be around and loved the sound of music.

Maryann is survived by her stepdaughter Allison Conteh, multiple brothers and sisters on her father's side and three brothers and five sisters on her mother's side, David Leak Sr., Sanford, NC, Danny Leak, Middletown, NJ, Darnell Leak Sr., Neptune, NJ, Darlene Leak, Neptune, NJ, Malinda Leak-Vaughn, Woodbridge, NJ, Katie Leak-Gaines, Avenel, NJ and Patricia Leak-Gaines, Keansburg, NJ, three brothers-in-law, Anthony, George and Yusef and one sister-in-law Sharon Leak.  Maryann also was blessed to have an amazing stepfather in her life, the late beloved David Leak Sr. along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
