She was born on June 24, 1956 in Long Branch, NJ to the late Ivy Thigpen and Selma Leak. She was also the wife to her deceased husband Mohamed Conteh who departed this life in 2019.

Maryann was a woman of God who loved the Lord and believed in the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. She was a faithful member at Faith Community church in Jamesburg, NJ and served as the church secretary. She loved spending time with her siblings as well as her church family. She was a delight to be around and loved the sound of music.
Maryann is survived by her stepdaughter Allison Conteh, multiple brothers and sisters on her father's side and three brothers and five sisters on her mother's side, David Leak Sr., Sanford, NC, Danny Leak, Middletown, NJ, Darnell Leak Sr., Neptune, NJ, Darlene Leak, Neptune, NJ, Malinda Leak-Vaughn, Woodbridge, NJ, Katie Leak-Gaines, Avenel, NJ and Patricia Leak-Gaines, Keansburg, NJ, three brothers-in-law, Anthony, George and Yusef and one sister-in-law Sharon Leak.
