Pauline Hughes received her wings and went to walk with the angels on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at home. She was born on December 8, 1933 in Macon, Georgia. She graduated from Ballard Hudson Senior High School in 1953 and later moved to New Jersey the same year. She was a long-time resident of Asbury Park, NJ but currently resided in Long Branch, NJ.

Pauline was baptized as a child at Over Coming Church of God in Macon, Georgia. She joined Friendship Baptist Church in 1962 under the leadership of Reverend L. Stephens.  She was a devoted member of Friendship Baptist Church and helped break ground at its current location. She served God in the following positions within the church: Church Treasurer, Benevolent Offering Treasurer, President of the Usher Board, Member of the Flower Club, and Assistant Advisor to the Youth Department.

Shortly after Pauline’s arrival in New Jersey she worked at the all-girls private school, Highland Manor School (currently Monmouth University) in West Long Branch, NJ.  She worked for over 25 years as a teacher's assistant at Kiddie Kare Child Development Center in Asbury Park, NJ. After Kiddie Kare closed she continued her work as a teacher's assistant at Inter Community Coordinating Council (ICCC) Headstart where she later retired in 2004.

Pauline enjoyed dancing and having fun with her family and friends. She enjoyed listening to her favorite songs on her collection of vinyl records. Gladys Knight singing "Midnight Train to Georgia" was one of her favorites along with anything from Barry White. She would regularly relax by doing word search puzzles.

Pauline was the last surviving offspring of the union of the late Jimmie and Eva Hughes.  She was predeceased by her siblings: Reverend Melvin Hughes, Evangelist Jessie Mae Smith, Eva Mae Foster, Willie Lee Hughes, Evangelist Emma Louise Thomas, Doris Hughes, and Coreen Hughes.

She leaves to cherish her memory her four children: Gregory Hughes (Nicole), Janice L. Parker, Brenda P. Bates (Kevin), and Linda P. Audain (Dexter). Also, Kim Edwards Jones whom Pauline always loved as her daughter.  Her grandchildren: Terrence Daye, Shahee Parker, Keiara Hughes, Gregory Hughes II, Ciana Hughes, Dimitri Hughes, Briana Hughes, and Derrick Audain. Her God daughter, Tamira Edwards. A host of nieces, nephews, great-grandchildren, and friends.
