Robin Leora Johnson was called to her final journey on April 21, 2023, at Monmouth Medical Center. Robin, also known as “Butt,” by family and friends was the eldest of three children born to the late Florence Johnson and Robert Newson on April 27, 1958. Robin would have been 65 years old.
Robin moved from New York City to Long Branch, NJ in 1970, when she was 11 years old. She was raised by her aunt, the late Pauline Rawls, in Grant Court. During her teens, Robin enjoyed working for MCap Summer Program at the Long Branch Boardwalk. After graduating from Long Branch High School in 1977, she went to William Patterson College for two years. Robin then worked at Marshall’s Department Store in Shrewsbury for 24 years.
Robin was raised in both the McLaughlin Pentecostal Faith Church and the Second Baptist Church, Long Branch, NJ, where she served as an Usher for a few years. She made it a point to make sure that the church van picked her up for Sunday services and she looked forward to Vacation Bible School every year.
Robin enjoyed walking and could be seen strolling uptown Broadway, along the Pleasure Bay area, down Florence Ave and along the Long Branch Boardwalk.
Robin is predeceased by her parents, older sister Jacqueline Brightman and older brother Larry Porter.
Robin is survived by two loving children, her son Eugene Lomax and daughter Sydney Jackson both of Long Branch, NJ; sisters Vanessa Johnson of Greenacres, FL, Barbara Alston of NC and Betty Williams of Georgia; a brother Robert Johnson of Asbury Park, NJ; grandchildren Geanna Lomax, Kedar Bailey-Lomax and Chase Lomax; a dedicated cousin, Randolph Phillips, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Robin,
You were ALWAYS one of the shining lights out of Long Branch!
I will forever remember our childhood days @ McLaughlin Pentecostal Church. (Sister Morris & Brother Nelson) 😊
