Rufus Monroe Jr. was born March 7, 1946, to the union of the late Rev. Rufus & Virginia Monroe, in Boston Georgia. He then moved to New Jersey with the family as a young child.

Rufus was baptized at an early age at Calvary Baptist Church in Red Bank, NJ. He was educated in the Red Bank school system and was a good athlete. In track, he did the high jump, he was in the bowling league and Rufus was a great boxer. He was in shape even until his last days.

Rufus loved family and enjoyed spending time with the children drawing pictures and telling stories. He enjoyed cooking and was very helpful around the family home. He was fun loving and very intelligent beyond his years. In his spare time, he loved to fish in Red Bank at Count Basie Pond, have lunch with his friends at Lunch Break and ride his bike.

Rufus Monroe departed this life on October 11, 2023, quietly at his residence in Brick, NJ.

He is predeceased by his parents Rev. Rufus Monroe, Sr. and Virginia Monroe, beloved sister & brother, Dorothy A. Monroe and James W. Monroe.

He leaves behind his daughter Denise, and granddaughter, sister Irene Franklin of Los Angeles California, nieces Tamara Franklin of California, and Michelle (Tyrone) Ferrens of Aberdeen, MD, Tiffani R. Monroe of Tinton Falls, NJ, Arlene Rodriguez of Vineland, NJ & Jaime Monroe and Tiffani Alexis Monroe of Vineland. NJ., and a host of relatives and friends.
