Tammy Lynn Canty was born August 12, 1964, in Long Branch, NJ to Mrs. Donna Perreira.  As a child Tammy was affectionally known as “mommy’s little girl.” She was also known as her brother’s keeper, being a strong advocate for everything that he did, and making sure that she had his back in any and all situations.  She enjoyed spending time at her grandparents’ home whom she loved dearly. Some of her fondest memories included a host of cousins and the incredible times that they shared.

Tammy attended the Long Branch Public School System and in 1982 she graduated from Long Branch High School.  She was known for her “million dollar” smile, protective nature and showering you with the toughest of love. She loved being a color guard in the high school band also known at that time as the Big Green Marching Machine.  She was also a member of the girls track team and the editor for the Green Wave Yearbook.  After high school Tammy attended Berkeley College of Business in Woodbridge, NJ.  Upon graduation she utilized her administrative skills in the medical billing field and at her dream position at Excellent Education for Everyone.

For Tammy, family was the number one priority, and her son Taj was her pride and joy.  It was important to her that her son be raised with the greatest of values, of which she was successful. Tammy was blessed with a keen sense of style; whether it be the clothes that she bought or her love for interior design.  Family and friends often got decorative advice, whether warranted or not.  She also loved her online shopping and could find anything you needed at the best price.  Christmas was her favorite time of year; often finishing her shopping by end of summer.  It was also very important to her that everyone got the perfect gift.  Tammy was a big fan of football at every level, especially if it involved her precious Cowboys.  If she was at a game, you were guaranteed to hear her cheering, especially if a loved one was in the game.

Blessed with being surrounded by a host of her loved ones, Tammy departed this world on January 23 with her son by her side.  She leaves to cherish all of her fond and loving memories to her son, Taj Bewley of Trenton, NJ; her mother and stepfather, Donna and Winston Perreira of Long Branch, NJ; her brother, Anthony Smith of Long Branch, NJ; her niece and bonus nephew, Laura and Michael Bland of Neptune, NJ; her niece and nephews, Taylor, Kyle and Alston Smith of Long Branch, NJ; her great-nieces, Layla and Michayla Bland of Neptune, NJ; her bonus sister, Cheryl Boykins of East Orange, NJ and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Tammy’s favorite scripture, which she began reciting at the age of four was John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”  It’s wonderful to know that Tammy believed.
