Thomas Alvin Carter, Sr. was born on July 1, 1936, in Scotch Plains, NJ, to Arthur Carter and Janet Bond Carter.  He departed this life on Friday, April 7, 2023, at home.  Thomas, known as “Tommy,” attended the Scotch Plains High School in NJ, and completed an apprenticeship to become a Union Bricklayer in the Bricklayers and Allied Craftsman Local Number 4.  Thomas served in the United States Air Force Reserves where he received an Honorable Discharge.

Thomas accepted the Lord as his Savior at an early age, and attended Life Abundant Church of God in Trenton, NJ.  In his spare time, Tommy loved to bowl, play golf and do photography.  Tommy had a genuine fascination with sports cars.  He was also an avid sports fan.  There wasn’t one sport that he did not know something about.  Tommy enjoyed attending sporting events and games and continued to be a huge fan in his later years by consistently watching and talking about sports.

He was predeceased by his parents, Arthur Carter and Janet Bond Carter; sisters, Leora Strong, Betty Jane Carter and Diann Gary; brothers, Ernest Carter, Arthur “Chick” Carter, Henry Carter and Charles Carter; and son, Thomas A. Carter, Jr.

Thomas is survived by two daughters, Darlene Carter and Pamela Carter of Plainfield, NJ; five sons, Michael Carter of South Bound Brook, NJ, Darren Carter (Myra) of Neptune, NJ, Keith Carter (Heather) of Edison, NJ, Brian Carter of Plainfield and Wanza Carter of Pennsylvania; sixteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
